Privacy policy

Last updated 25 May 2026

This privacy policy explains how IC Japan (the app, the website at nfcjp.com and the related Android and iOS apps) collects, uses and protects information when you use our service. IC Japan is operated by Flygi AB, registered in Gothenburg, Sweden. Throughout this document we, us and our refer to Flygi AB.

IC Japan is a utility that reads balance and travel history from Japanese transit IC cards (Suica, Pasmo, Welcome Suica and Icoca) using the NFC hardware in your phone. We have built the app to work without accounts, servers or tracking. This policy describes exactly what that means.

Information we collect

We do not collect personal information such as your name, email address, phone number or precise location. We do not require you to create an account. The app does not contain advertising or third party analytics software development kits.

When you tap an IC card against your phone, the app reads the following data directly from the card chip:

  • Card type and the last digits of the card number
  • Current balance in Japanese yen
  • Recent transaction history that is stored on the card itself, typically the last twenty entries
  • Station or terminal identifiers contained in those transactions

This information is read locally on your device. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party.

How information is stored

Card data and your app preferences are stored only on your device using the operating system's standard local storage (browser storage on the web, app storage on Android and iOS). Nothing is uploaded to a server. If you uninstall the app or clear app data the information is permanently removed.

Permissions we request

The app requests access to NFC in order to communicate with your IC card. That is the only sensitive permission used. We do not request access to your contacts, photos, microphone, camera or location.

Third parties

IC Japan does not integrate with third party analytics, advertising or marketing services. The only external links in the app point to our travel partner pages, and following those links is governed by the privacy policy of each destination site. We are not affiliated with JR East, the Suica brand, Pasmo Co. Ltd., JR West or any other transit operator.

Children

IC Japan is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect information from children. Since we do not collect personal data at all, the app does not target or profile any age group.

Your rights

Because we do not store any of your data on our servers, there is no personal data for us to access, correct or delete on your behalf. You are in full control of the data on your device and can remove it at any time by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom you still have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation. If you believe we hold any data about you, you may contact us using the details below and we will respond within 30 days.

Security

IC card communication uses the NFC standard supported by your device. Because nothing leaves your phone, there is no transmission risk introduced by the app. We recommend keeping your device operating system up to date and using a screen lock to protect data stored locally.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves or as required by law. The latest version will always be available at this URL with a refreshed last updated date at the top of the page.
